LeBron James to play for Lakers for season opener

LeBron James is to play his first game in a Lakers uniform on Monday night for the season opener against the Sacramento Kings.

James, who turns 33 on Saturday, will join a rotation that also includes Jodie Meeks and Pau Gasol.

It will be the first time the NBA has used the All-Star guard in a season opener.

James will be playing alongside his longtime friend and mentor, Dwyane Wade, who is expected to miss the opener because of a sprained right thumb.

James was drafted No. 2 overall by the Heat in 2010.

He was traded to the Lakers for Chris Bosh in 2013.

Bosh was traded again last season.

The Heat won the franchise’s second title last season with James at the helm.
